Head Gasket Repair Specialists · Tucson, AZ
A blown head gasket is one of the most serious diesel repairs you’ll face — and one of the most consequential if done wrong. Arizona’s Affordable Diesel Tech knows how to complete head gasket jobs on Ford Powerstroke, Duramax, and Cummins engines across Tucson and Southern Arizona.
Recognize the Warning Signs
01
When a head gasket fails at the coolant passage, coolant enters the combustion chamber and burns off as thick white exhaust smoke with a distinctive sweet smell. If you’re seeing continuous white smoke after the engine is fully warmed up, stop driving immediately.
02
If your oil dipstick looks like a chocolate milkshake — brown, frothy, or milky — coolant has contaminated your engine oil. Oil diluted with coolant loses its lubricating properties rapidly. Pull over and call us immediately.
03
If your temperature gauge is spiking and you can’t find an obvious external cause, combustion gases are very likely pushing into the cooling system through a compromised head gasket.
04
A head gasket breach between two cylinders allows compression to leak between them, reducing cylinder pressure. You’ll notice a loss of torque, rough idle, and in some cases a noticeable cylinder misfire.
05
If you notice bubbles in the coolant overflow tank — especially after shutting off a warm engine — combustion gases are entering the cooling system. Catching it at this stage prevents far more severe damage.
If your diesel is showing any head gasket symptoms, stop driving immediately. Every additional mile risks warped cylinder heads and bearing damage. Call us at (520) 325-1111.
Our Proven Process
01
Cylinder leak-down test and cooling system pressure test to confirm failure, identify which cylinders are affected, and assess the extent of any additional damage.
02
Both heads carefully removed and sent to our machine shop partner for resurfacing. Warped, cracked, or damaged heads identified and replaced as needed. We never skip this step.
03
ARP head studs — significantly stronger than OEM bolts — with premium head gaskets. EGR and oil cooler addressed simultaneously on 6.0 engines.
04
Cooling system pressure test, cylinder leak-down retest, live data monitoring run, and a full road test. The truck doesn’t leave our shop until every parameter checks out.
Engines We Specialize In
Ford
The most common head gasket job we perform. EGR and oil cooler always replaced simultaneously. ARP studs and Bulletproof Diesel upgrades standard on every 6.0 build.
Ford
Twin-turbo engine requires specific head bolt torque sequences and updated OEM head bolt replacement. We follow Ford’s revised service specifications precisely.
GM / Chevy
Injector cup and head gasket issues addressed together. Resurfacing and proper torque sequencing are non-negotiable on Duramax head work.
Stop driving it and call us now. The sooner you bring it in, the more we can protect. Arizona’s Affordable Diesel Tech has completed hundreds of head gasket repairs on diesel trucks across Tucson and Southern Arizona.
